Ascension Athletic Association Ascension Youth Basketball The goal of the Ascension Youth Basketball Program is to develop a child's basketball skills in a positive environment which promotes Christian values. Who Can Play? All boys and girls, Grades Kindergarten-2, are eligible for participation in the basketball program without restriction.  Anyone interested in participating is welcome.  (Note: Restrictions apply beginning in 3rd grade) All boys and girls, Grades 3-8, are eligible for participation in the Junior basketball program if the child's family is a registered Member of Ascension Parish, lives within the Ascension Parish boundaries, or attends Ascension School (unless your parish does not have a program). All participants in Grades 5-8 must obtain a CYC ID card. It is ideal to get one for each sport played in the same season (volleyball, baseball, and soccer). You can securely apply for a CYC ID Card online at www.cycstl.net. CYC Programs The Ascension Camp and CYC Training League programs will run from early November - Christmas.  The CYC League will run from January - mid March with access to schedules on the left-hand side menu under "Basketball Schedules and Results". Ascension Camp (Grades Kindergarten-1st):  This program is held in a camp format for teaching basic skills.  The program includes: Practices are held in Ascension's gym on Sunday afternoons NOTE: There are no games with this program CYC Training League (Grade 2):  The program includes: Practices are held in a camp format at Ascension's gym and other local schools gyms one night a week, Monday through Friday Games are played 5 vs. 5 and scheduled for every Sunday afternoon CYC League (Grades 3-8):   This program includes: Practices are held for each individual team by their coach Games are played 5 vs 5, following the West County CYC rules with home games played at Ascension's gym and away games played at other West County CYC parishes/schools Teams will typically include eight to ten players The Ascension Basketball Team Coordinator(s) will make every effort to ensure that each child is assigned to a team, if registered by the deadline Pre-season Skills Camp:  At the request of many of our past and current coaches, our teams need the opportunity to drill the basics without using the precious practice time which is intended for team development.  The Ascension Athletic Association has, therefore, hired a very skilled local coach to provide a Skills Camp, scheduled (typically) for Sunday afternoons in November and December.  Details regarding dates/times will be conveyed via the team coaches Team Formation All players are normally placed on the team from the previous year.  All new participants will be placed randomly on teams based on team numbers.  The goal is to balance the player count per team across multiple teams at that gender/age level.  When possible, we use the comment section of the registration form to place individuals on teams in which they might have a friend they want to play with.  Please know we will do our best but this is not a guarantee and a great opportunity for your kids to make new friends. Playoff Eligibility West County CYC Recreational Tournament (Grades 3-8):  This decision is typically made by the head coach with input from his/her team West County CYC District Playoffs and CYC Archdiocesan Tournament (Grades 5-8):  Eligibility depends on both division designation and standing within the division Teams have not been allowed to participate in both tournaments due to conflicting schedules Registration Typically runs from September 1st thru mid October each year (contact the Basketball Director for more specifics as the season approaches).  It is important to register on time to ensure your child will be placed on a team, and when possible, we use the comments section of the registration form to place kids on teams in which they might have a friend they want to play with. Fees Ascension Camp (Grades K-1):  $60 per player.  A late registration fee of $20 applies from the Registration End Date until the program can no longer accept players for that gender and age level.* Training League (Grade 2):  $110 per player.  A late registration fee of $20 applies from the Registration End Date until the program can no longer accept players for that gender and age level.* CYC League Grades 3-5:  $140 per player Grades 6-8:  $145 per player A late registration Fee of $35 applies from the Registration End Date until the program can no longer accept players for that gender and age level* A $25 Sibling Discount will be given on all registrations after the first family member.  This discount will be taken when you checkout, if it applies. * NOTE:  There are many reasons why "the program can no longer accept players for that gender and age level", for example: The teams are full. Logistical deadlines with equipment suppliers - i.e. orders must be placed. Hard deadlines with the CYC League - i.e. team/player information must be submitted. If teams are full after this date, registrant will be put on a wait list. Uniforms The Ascension Basketball Program will provide t-shirts for all players in the Camp (Grades K-1) and jerseys for all players in Training League (Grade2).  These are yours to keep. The Ascension Basketball Program will provide team uniforms for all players in the CYC League (Grades 3-8).  All uniforms must be returned to the head coach at the end of the season.  Please follow the care procedure provided by your coach and remember that these uniforms will be used by others in future years.  Only wear the uniform for games and not as play clothes.  Also, please change before eating or drinking as stains are very difficult to remove.  A fee may be assessed for damaged uniforms at the discretion of the Athletic Association. Parent Participation - Helps with the Success of Our Program! All parents are encouraged to volunteer in our Basketball Program as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager, practice/game helper, or party organizer.  If your team already has a Head Coach, please ask him/her what you can do to help the team.  Or contact the appropriate Basketball Coordinator for details on how to help. Each volunteer (coach, parent) must fulfill their Archdiocese obligation by being compliant with the guidelines listed below.  Non-compliance means we cannot accept volunteers that we greatly appreciate and need to make our basketball program successful. Attend Protecting God's Children Workshop (www.cycstl.net) Fill out the Background Check form Read the "Code of Ethical Conduct" document and sign it All Coaches (head and assistant) must complete the "Coaching to Make a Positive Difference" class (www.cycstl.net) See more detailed information by selecting the "Coaches" tab above, "Coaching at Ascension" option
